Photofacial therapy is delivered as a series of gentle intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments developed to improve the appearance of sun damaged and aged skin. IPL will also reduce redness and flushing of the face. IPL/Photofacial results in more healthy and youthful looking skin by consistently and predictably improving the texture, tone, and color of the skin with little to no down time.

The IPL/Photofacial is a relatively simple procedure with a treatment session lasting about 45 minutes. IPL/Photofacial treatments are a non-invasive alternative for the treatment of a variety of skin conditions on the face, neck, chest, hands and arms. Treatable conditions include acne, sun damage, blood vessels, age spots, uneven pigment, redness and rosacea. The result is a more even, luminous and younger looking complexion.

IPL/Photofacial treatments typically require a series of 3 to 5 sessions spaced at 3 to 4 week intervals to achieve optimal results. Some persons are satisfied with their results in 1 or 2 sessions, whereas others may desire additional treatments.

Possible side effects of IPL/Photofacial include a sunburned look for a few hours after treatment and temporary darkening of targeted dark spots, which will flake off in a couple of days. Hair growth in the treatment area may be stunted. Swelling blistering, infection, unwanted pigmentation changes and scarring are rare side effects. Existing viral infections such a shingles and fever blisters may be activated by the procedure and can be treated with anti-viral medication.
